Why is GreenComp important?
Integrating sustainability into education systems is essential to develop key skills for responsible action, protect the planet, and support the transition to a green economy.
How are educators and learners supported?
GreenComp provides a shared framework to help educators design sustainability-focused learning programs and guides learners in acquiring knowledge, skills, and attitudes to address environmental and societal challenges.
Who is the framework for?
It targets individuals of all ages and education levels, applicable in formal (schools, universities), non-formal (training courses), and informal learning contexts.
What skills can be developed?
Twelve key competencies are identified across four areas: sustainability values, critical thinking, envisioning sustainable futures, and action for change.

Integrating sustainability into education and training systems is crucial to tackling global environmental challenges and acquiring the skills needed to protect the planet, fostering a fairer and greener society.
This is the context in which GreenComp, the European sustainability competence framework, was developed, as announced under the European Green Deal.
To support educators and learners in integrating sustainability at every educational level and context, 12 competencies have been defined, organized into 4 interconnected areas:
